I recently had the privilege of being invited to spend three nights on board The Queen Elizabeth 2 sailing between Laem Chabang (Bangkok) and Singapore. As we approached the Port at Laem Chabang, myself and fellow Consultants where mesmerized at the size of the Ship and its Funnel. She was just an amazing sight to see - I felt an adrenaline rush and I couldn't wait to step on board. After boarding we were escorted to our cabin which was a Princess/Britannia Grill Category (P2Ultra Deluxe). I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the Cabin and the layout (twin beds). There was plenty of storage, the bathrooms where very modern, however I did feel the bedside furniture needed a tidy up which I believe is happening very soon. After viewing several different categories I realised that some cabins have already had there full makeover and where really beautiful.
We were asked to meet for Afternoon Tea at 4.00pm in the Queens Room - the waiters in lovely white uniforms and wearing white gloves and serving from silver trays - felt so special. I then went off to explore shops etc.and again surprised with the variety on board. The evening was fabulous eating exotic foods from around the world like Smoked Salmon Rose with Sevruga Caviar or Lobster Raviolis with Basil Nantua Sauce followed by Grilled Angus Beef Fillet Steak with Madagascar Pepper Sauce then some delicious Hazelnut Roulade with Praline Cream and Chocolate Sauce and decadent chocolates. (so much to choose from and no I didn't eat all this in one night). We dined in the Britannia Grill Restaurant, however I did see other restaurants and asked the differences and I believe they all have similar menus some may have a few more delicacies and are larger or smaller in size. I also tried the Lido restaurant and the food was equally as good but a lot less formal. Daily we received newsletters that updated us with what is happening on board and stated the dress code for the evening. I found there was a wide variety to the formal night - some where very formal and others simply elegant. I found a wide variety of age groups on board from honeymooners to families with young children and elderly who mingled if they wished and despite the size of the ship I never felt at any time was there a crowd or too many people anywhere.
The next day was filled with more exploring - I went and indulged in Royal Spa what an experience and so relaxing. The Beauty Salon on board was very modern and the gymnasium with an indoor pool was always busy. I needed to meet a client on board and I had to make an appointment that suited her activities list as she plans her day to the maximum. (dance and art classes and lectures etc.)
Sadly, the fairytale came to an end and I went from being treated like Royalty back to the reality of the real world. I can't wait to book a cruise on the QE2 so I can once again feel the ambience and have the treatment from 1st class employees that made me feel very special in every way.
Truly a five star sophisticated cruise experience that I will remember forever.
